Our Wait for Arwen...

It was mid-December 2007 when we met and held our daughter, Arwen, in Guatemala. She was only 3 weeks old and captivated us with her big, dark eyes and the most adorable little grin. Since then, we've seen her grow through photographs and health reports.

We've longed for Arwen to come home since the moment we said 'goodbye'. Even Atticus, who's only seen his sister through photos, always asks when his "baby Arwen" will come home.

Now, we've come to a point where the process is almost completely out of our hands. Our part--in terms of the paperwork, interviews, visits to consulates, etc--is done. We're waiting for the Guatemalan courts and government to finalize the adoption. Although there is no estimated end date, we're praying that Arwen will be home sometime this fall.

News reports have conveyed a depressing view into the adoption process in Guatemala. Sadly, some of what has been reported is true. Hope remains for those of us in the process to bring our children home even though the system has been broken or corrupt. And, when this is all said and done, the new international adoption system should better protect the orphaned children in Guatemala.

We know our agency and orphanage are legitimate and respectful to the birth mothers, the children, and the government.

We began the process over a year ago. Although it's been long, confusing, and heavy... it has also been entirely miraculous. Our hope and prayers are for Arwen, and the other parents and children who long to finally unite.

We deeply appreciate your prayers, thoughtfulness, and contributions to our growing family.

Sincerely,
Nick, Melissa, Atticus, & Bennet
